Client Relationship Manager
The Team
The Business Development team is a centralised function advising and supporting the Firm in its marketing, sales support and business development activities. The key drivers for the team are to ensure we support the development and implementation of the firm's strategy and in particular help:
- Drive profitable revenue growth (through the key client programme and new clients)
- Develop and deliver a clear brand proposition through our sector focus
The Role

The Client Relationship Manager will report to the Financial Services sector Senior Client Relationship Manager and sit within the central business development function providing support to a selection of our strategic priority clients. They will share and encourage best practice relationship management across the firm and help to deliver excellent and proactive relationship service to our partners and relationship teams at Addleshaw Goddard.
They will be responsible for the client development and commercial growth of a number of financial services sector priority clients. The role also includes working closely with business development managers in the sectors and divisions to understand and provide insight and challenge on key client, intermediary and target relationships.
Key Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- End-to-end client relationship management of a number of the firm's most strategically important clients in the Financial Services Sector
- Work with Client Relationship Partners (CRPs) to develop and implement global client business plans
- Work with the relevant Sector BDM to ensure that client plans are aligned to and inform the sector strategy
- Prepare for, attend and on occasion lead regular relationship review meetings with priority clients and drive follow up actions
- Drive the adoption and integration of BD tools and technology, such as CRM, bid trackers
- Drive and support AG initiatives aimed at revenue generation
- Monitor opportunities to deepen client relationships and grow revenues with clients in assigned portfolio; industry trends, news alerts, SWOT analysis, white space maps and supplementary strategic research
- Coaching CRPs, Relationship Associates and wider members of the client teams to realise client plans
- Support CRPs by acting as a central point of contact for client queries
- Input into relevant pitch opportunities and panel reviews led by the Bids team, leveraging insights and understanding
- Develop client relationships (legal and non-legal) with clients in assigned portfolio, using this network to make introductions to broaden AG's relationships
- Drive engagement with strategic clients beyond legal delivery, identifying opportunities and drawing in relevant AG teams, from CSR to legal technology and Consulting
- Work with the wider Client Programme Team to champion the Client Feedback Programme. Develop bespoke reports and dashboards to monitor and track key actions arising from the client feedback and report on progress
- Support our Head of Clients & Sectors with the creation of a culture of relationship excellence within the firm, ensuring everyone has the support and guidance to adopt a co-ordinated approach to managing and growing the firm's relationships
- Work with the Head of Clients & Sectors on the creation and launch of best practice relationship management toolkits beyond the key client programme, including delivering training sessions for fee earners and BD colleagues
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
- We are looking for an experienced business development professional with business development and client relationship management experience in a professional services environment, preferably a law firm
- Financial Services sector experience would be helpful, but is not essential
- We need someone with the ability to influence and advise Partners on direction with strong execution and follow-through
- You must be a motivated self–starter with: a can-do attitude; the ability to use initiative; and the ability to find solutions
- You must be highly organised, able to handle multiple concurrent projects and ensure completion against tight deadlines. We operate in highly competitive markets, and so you must be able to operate at a high quality in demanding situations
- You must have a strong customer-services ethos, and attention to detail is essential to this role
- You must be an effective communicator and a team player. Solid writing skills are essential
- You must have strong interpersonal skills and be comfortable engaging with people at all levels
- A Marketing or business degree (or equivalent) would be helpful, but is not essential
