Assistant FP&A Accountant
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
- To support the continued growth and success of the firm, we are looking for a part-qualified Accountant to join our Financial, Planning and Analysis team, assisting in the creation of Finance Reporting to the Board and other stakeholders.
- With high levels of stakeholder engagement from the outset and the chance to support the improvement and standardisation of current processes, you will be responsible for assisting the production of the Firm's monthly management accounts, Exec/Board level financial reporting and supporting the FP&A Analyst team.
THE TEAM
- The FP&A (Financial, Planning and Analysis) team is responsible for providing financial analysis, forecasting, and strategic planning support to the Firm. Their main objective is to assist in decision-making processes by providing accurate and timely information.
- The FP&A team provides financial information to both external clients and internal Groups and Regions, with timely up to date information about workstreams, matters and clients. In addition, the team provides financial insights with the management accounts, the planning process, and forecasting support.
- The FP&A team is known for delivering high-quality work that is accurate, reliable, and comprehensive. They are responsible for analysing financial data, identifying trends, and providing insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making. This requires a high level of attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and an understanding of financial modelling and forecasting techniques.
- What sets the FP&A team apart is its ability to combine financial expertise with a deep understanding of the Firm's goals and objectives. They go beyond just providing financial analysis and reporting; they actively contribute to strategic planning and help drive the Firm towards its financial targets.
- The FP&A team provides an excellent introduction into the commercial finance team and as individuals gain experience and demonstrate strong performance, they may have the chance to take on more senior roles within the team or move into other areas of finance.
What to expect in this role
As Assistant FP&A Accountant your role will include:
- Deputising for the Senior FP&A Accountant/Project Accountant or other team members as required.
- Assisting with the monthend close to timetable, liaising with Financial Control, Business Services and Commercial Finance teams.
- Preparing Firmwide management accounting adjustments, for example the valuation of WIP, rebates, PI and aged debt provisioning.
- Preparing Firmwide cashflow Plans and Forecasts and reconciling cashflow on a weekly/monthly basis including as necessary, ad-hoc cashflow modelling.
- Providing help and guidance to other members of the FP&A team specifically ensuring that best practice is followed, and reports are produced in the most effective, efficient, and accurate manner.
- Assisting in compiling commentary for the COO, Partnership and Board.
- Working closely with the Financial Control team to ensure management accounts adhere to Group policy.
- Preparing regular operational reports to the Partnership.
- Providing insightful reporting and analysis, including what-if analysis and stress testing, to enhance decision making at Board and Executive level.
- Working closely with the Commercial Finance Team to collect, analyse, interpret, and explain financial data to key stakeholders.
- Support with the planning and forecasting cycle as required.
- Assist with the yearend process as required.
- Helping to set the agenda for the team and ensure daily, weekly, monthly and annual priorities are met.
- Producing timely and accurate routine reporting for the Groups and Regions and look to change and innovate where possible.
- Assisting in specifying solutions to management information requirements from the Commercial Finance team.
- Identifying gaps in management information that will contribute to the understanding of the performance of the business.
- Any other ad-hoc requirements as the role requires.
your areas of knowledge and expertise
To be successful in this role, you will:
- Be studying towards a professional qualification (ACA/CIMA/ACCA or equivalent) and have completed some exams (not including exemptions).
- Possess hands on experience working within a Finance team environment (essential).
- Have a detailed working understanding of relevant finance and reporting systems, including Excel (advanced level), Power BI, 3E.
- Have a strong knowledge of accounting principles and procedures and be confident utilising this understanding to write insightful finance and commercial commentaries based upon sound financial analysis.
- Be a confident communicator with the ability to collaborate with stakeholders of all levels, adapting your approach as needed.
- Be able to work effectively, building strong relationships and influencing within a complex and dynamic matrix organisation structure (essential).
- Have a desire to succeed in a fast-paced finance team, with a specific focus on delivering high quality management information and analysis to the business and our clients.
- Be committed to supporting the education and development of junior members of the team.
