Job Description
Real Estate, Investment and Funds Paralegal
The Firm
We stand out for our consistently excellent advice: we provide technical excellence, experience and crucially, we demonstrate real insight into our clients and what matters to them. Our knowledge of our chosen sectors and markets, and our investment in our client relationships set us apart. We are a natural choice for FTSE100 and other high-profile clients.
The TST
Launched in 2010, our well-established, high performing and busy Transaction Services Team (TST) help Addleshaw Goddard deliver a world class service to its clients. We were the first team of its kind in the UK and continue to innovate by delivering work in the most efficient way, saving our clients time and money. We are now one of the Firm's biggest groups, with our team being made up of apprentices, paralegals, managers and solicitors.
Our team members focus on tasks that are found in a wide variety of legal assignments, but which do not necessarily need to be done by qualified lawyers, including process elements of transactional, advisory and contentious work. We are supported by the use of technology and play a key role in enabling Addleshaw Goddard to respond to client demand for more innovative and better value services.
Aside from a competitive salary and flexible benefits package, you'll get fantastic opportunities to support some of the UK's largest businesses. With our focus on continuous development and progression, we created a career development framework and training programme specifically for the TST. As part of that framework, you'll have the opportunity to have a career conversation every 4 months, as well as 3-weekly catch-ups with your line manager, to ensure we're supporting you to meet your development goals and to discuss your progression regularly. In addition, you'll have access to our internal training contract application process, legal qualification sponsorship and management or technical development programmes.
The REIF Team
The REIF team advises a broad range of managers (from first time managers to established global institutions) on both onshore and offshore fund mandates, across all sectors but with particular strength in private equity, venture capital, real estate, infrastructure and debt. In addition to our experience supporting managers, we also advise a range of fund investors on their fund investments, from family offices to international organisations, pension funds and other institutional investors. The work is international in nature and the team in the UK frequently collaborates with colleagues in Europe, Asia and the Middle East on funds matters.
The Role
The REIF Paralegal role will have a focus on Private Funds. The role falls within the Corporate and Commercial (C&C) TST sub team, as REIF forms part of the wider C&C Group. The specific REIF paralegal role will be London based, and the successful candidate would sit directly with the REIF team.
We have paralegals who already support the REIF team on the Real Estate Investments side of the team and we are now seeking a paralegal to support with the Private Funds side. The REIF team is a fast paced and growing area of our business. The successful candidate for this role will be in a great position to support and be supported by both REIF and the TST C&C sub team. Whilst the majority of the work will come from REIF, there may be quieter periods where you would haver the opportunity to support with wider TST C&C matters to gain further experience and skills.
Role Expectations
Due to the dynamic nature of the work we do and the clients we seek to serve, the role is not an ordinary "9-5" job. For the right person, this role provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to our proven success by utilising a wide set of skills essential to a career in the TST. Duties of the role are to:
- support the Private Funds Group in advising fund managers and institutional investors on fund formation and investments, across sectors such as private equity, venture capital, real estate, infrastructure, and debt;
- undertake the usual junior fee earner work to support the REIF team, including drafting, research, and completion support;
- assist in drafting and reviewing ancillary fund documentation, including investor documentation and board minutes;
- collaborate closely with fee earners on both UK-based and international mandates, often involving cross-border coordination with AG teams in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East;
- contribute to the production and maintenance of team know-how, training resources, and precedent documents;
- help manage due diligence and investor onboarding processes, liaising with clients, fund administrators, and counsel as needed;
- maintain high levels of client service and attention to detail, working efficiently across complex matters and supporting on business development activity where required; and
- any additional tasks as required by the business.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED (BESPOKE TO ROLE)
Any successful applicant will need the following skills and competencies:
- a high level of attention to detail;
- effective personal, organisational and time management skills, and the ability to juggle multiple demands;
- strong written and verbal communication skills, demonstrating an ability to communicate with colleagues at all levels;
- a positive, enthusiastic, and proactive approach to work;
- a strong work ethic and a desire to develop and succeed;
- the ability to work to tight timescales with a sense of urgency;
- common sense, commerciality, and the ability to exercise sound judgment;
- an interest in, or experience of, using technology to deliver work; and
- previous Corporate and/or REIF paralegal experience is of relevance, but not essential.
