Data Protection - Senior Lawyer

Purpose of the Role

We are looking for a talented Senior Lawyer who is a team player and would relish the opportunity to work on national and international data protection work advising clients in our chosen sectors.

This role will be based in our London office. Hybrid working is encouraged to get a balance between working from home and being in the office. For hybrid working to be a success, we must be able to meet the needs of our business and our clients; attract, develop, and retain people; maintain flexibility and foster healthy working practices. Occasionally travel to our other UK offices is expected.

 

The Team

The Addleshaw Goddard data team is a large UK wide team of data protection specialists supporting blue chip, FTSE and international clients on a full spectrum of data protection work. The Data team comprises two key sub-groups: the Data Protection Team and the Reputation and Information Protection Team.

The Practice head is Helena Brown who focuses on complex compliance matters and large-scale incidents. London based Nathalie Moreno has a focus on international clients and multi-jurisdictional data protection, cybersecurity & AI projects and a variety of sectors including technology, financial services, healthcare and life sciences, retail and consumer, automotive.  Aberdeen-based Ross McKenzie is recommended for IT and data-related matters. The team welcomed a further Partner Claire Edwards in May 2022, based in Manchester, and specialises in advice in relation to all aspects of sharing, processing, and wider use of data.

Systematically growing in both revenue and reputation over the past few years, the team pride themself on providing simple, pragmatic advice in this complex and fast paced area of the law.

The team acts for clients across multiple sectors and is particularly well known for its work in retail, tech, financial services, and healthcare..

The practice handles both contentious and non-contentious work, domestically and internationally, and takes a lead role in developing tech-based data solutions with our award-winning legal technology team.

 

Your Areas of Knowledge and Expertise 

  • 4 - 5 PQE (or above); Managing Associate Level
  • A qualified data/technical lawyer and have a pragmatic and commercial approach to advising on and resolving issues;
  • Have extensive experience in data protection law, including GDPR and PECR, across various sectors, and used to work on international projects;
  • Have experience of supervising junior lawyers, managing data protection projects and being the point of contact with clients;
  • You want to build relationships with senior management and your wider colleagues and have a real impact;
  • You will manage your own workload with help from supporting partners, handling a spread of commercial work as and when needed by clients, and be able to delegate to junior lawyers in the team;
  • Be a team player, motivated and keen to progress to more senior roles within AG;
  • Be ambitious and want to help grow the international practice and take an active role in core initiatives in the firm;
  • Have enthusiasm for intellectually challenging work, are ambitious and confident to deliver at the highest standard;
  • Take time to fully appreciate clients' needs and priorities ensuring their advice is meaningful, tailored, commercial and delivered with a solutions-orientated and enabling mindset; AND
  • Details focussed, self-motivated and proactive, and confident in building enduring relationships with clients that are based on trust and high-quality service delivery.
