Job Description
Legal Technologist
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
• We are seeking a dynamic, collaborative and technically capable Legal Technologist to join the Practice Innovation pillar within the Innovation & Legal Technology team.
• In this role, you will support the delivery, adoption and management of legal technology tools and solutions used by practice groups across the Firm. You will help ensure tools are effectively supported, users are engaged and trained, and innovation initiatives are embedded into day-to-day legal work.
• You will also contribute to monitoring and enhancing monthly ROI and reporting outputs, including helping to develop new Power BI reporting methodologies that provide clear insight into usage, value and impact.
THE TEAM
• Our Innovation and Legal Technology (ILT) team, formed in 2015, is one of the three teams that make up the Innovation Group. The ILT team combines technology and legal expertise, fully integrating these capabilities into our business operations. ILT has grown into a fast-paced and dynamic unit, constantly evolving to provide opportunities for contribution and career development.
• Within the ILT team, the Practice Innovation pillar focuses on helping lawyers embed technology and improved ways of working into their day-to-day legal delivery. We collaborate with teams across the firm to identify pain points, scope opportunities for improvement and support the adoption of tools and solutions that improve efficiency, consistency and client service, as well help the Firm realise measurable value from innovation investments.
• This includes managing and evaluating the legal tech tools used by lawyers in their everyday work, supporting trials and onboarding of new technology, tracking adoption and ROI, coordinating with internal stakeholders and vendors, and helping configure or develop solutions where off-the-shelf tools do not fully meet business needs.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS ROLE
Supported with the appropriate training and guidance required, your key responsibilities will be:
• Providing day-to-day support for legal technology tools used by practice groups, helping to resolve issues, optimise usage and maintain confidence in the solutions deployed across the Firm.
• Designing and delivering training and engagement activities to increase awareness, capability and adoption of legal technology solutions among lawyers and business services teams.
• Producing and maintaining monthly ROI, recharging of legal technology tools and reporting outputs to support decision-making, budget visibility and value tracking.
• Supporting the development of enhanced Power BI reporting methodologies to improve insight, consistency and reporting capability across Practice Innovation activities.
• Collaborating with internal stakeholders across legal teams, Innovation & Legal Technology, IT and other business services functions to identify opportunities for improvement and successful technology adoption.
• Helping monitor usage trends, user feedback and operational data to inform continuous improvement and demonstrate the impact of legal technology solutions.
• Keeping up to date with relevant developments in legal technology, the Microsoft Power Platform and web-based technologies to support innovation in legal service delivery.
YOUR AREAS OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE
• An undergraduate degree or equivalent education or experience.
• Relevant experience within a law firm, legal technology, innovation or professional services environment is preferred.
• Strong technical aptitude, with the ability to understand new tools and systems, troubleshoot issues and learn new tools quickly.
• Experience or understanding of legal technology software tools such as HighQ, Legora, Legatics, plus more.
• Experience or strong working knowledge of Microsoft Power Platform tools, particularly Power BI, and an interest in developing reporting methodologies.
• Coding skills in web-based languages, with an ability to support or develop lightweight technical solutions where appropriate.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to train, support and engage a wide range of stakeholders.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, particularly in relation to reporting, ROI analysis and data quality.
• A proactive, collaborative and adaptable approach, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively across teams.
• An interest in legal technology, innovation and the practical application of technology in legal service delivery.
